Increasing Varied Responding and Autism: Mechanisms, Procedures, and ConsiderationsPresented by: Ronald Lee, Ph.D., BCBA-D, LABAPeople diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder may engage in a narrow range of behavior within and across contexts. As a result, creating environments, designing curriculum, and programming contingencies that foster and encourage appropriate variations in behavior can be an important part of a comprehensive behavior-analytic intervention package. This presentation will discuss mechanisms and methods that directly and indirectly result in varied responding, such as programming for response generalization and direct reinforcement of response variability. Practical considerations, strengths, and limitations of each will also be discussed. *This event is eligible for 2 CEUs. Click here to register to attend virtually via a web login. Click here to register for the in-person event. *Note: registration will close at 50 participants. This event is free to all BCI Behavior Analysts.Location: 345A Greenwood St, Worcester, MA 01607 Time: 4:30pm-6:30pm |

10 Things You Should Know About Teaching LeisurePresented by: Stacie L. Bancroft, Ph.D., BCBA-D, LABAEducation and habilitative care for individuals with developmental disabilities has improved dramatically over the past 50 years yet creating effective leisure repertoires seems to be lagging behind. Badia et al. (2013) review evidence suggesting a strong relation between leisure repertoires and quality of life. Many adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities have substantial amounts of free time that may ideally be filled with leisure. Despite substantial societal value placed on developing opportunities for quality leisure within this population, free time is too often filled with sedentary, stereotypic, and dependent activity. What are we missing? This presentation will offer data-based and research driven considerations in teaching leisure to individuals with developmental disabilities. We will discuss a goal-oriented conceptualization of leisure and help attendees develop a plan for helping their students and clients develop long-term, broad-based leisure repertoires through the review of ten important considerations and strategies for teaching leisure. Some areas of review will include what to measure and track over time, stimulus control over initiating leisure, increasing the reinforcing value of mastered activities, assessing and treating variability, and selection of targeted activities. *This event is eligible for 2.5 CEUs. Click here to register to attend virtually via a web login. Click here to register for the in-person event. *Note: registration will close at 50 participants. This event is free to all BCI Behavior Analysts.Location: 345A Greenwood St, Worcester, MA 01607 Time: 4:30pm-7:00pm |
